Biography of Willie Dixon
The late Willie Dixon remains the greatest of the Chicago blues impressarios. Although he was a gifted bassist, arranger, promoter and record producer, Dixon is best known for the hundreds of blues songs he wrote over the course of five decades in music. Such tunes as "Wang Dang Doodle," "Little Red Rooster," "Seventh Son," "You Shook Me," "I Just Want to Make Love to You," "I Ain't Superstitious," "Pretty Thing," "My Babe," and "Back Door Man" have become anthems for blues and rock & roll musicians around the world. Dixon's tunes got greater recognition for the original blues masters who recorded them than when they were recorded by British blues-rock superstars like Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, and the Rolling Stones.Must-have Dixon records include Andy McKaie's definitive Willie Dixon Chess boxed-set for MCA, as well as his albums from the '80s for the Pausa (Mighty Earthquake and Hurricane) and Capitol (Hidden Charms) labels. ~ Richard Skelly
