Biography of Ultravox

While at first a band who suffered from bad timing, eventually the world connected with Ultravox. Their arrival fused artsy Roxy-Bowieisms with an image later blown wide-open by the oncoming punk era, whose participants found the band too musicianly for their liking. By the time leader John Foxx introduced elements of the German electronics style, few were listening, but Ultravox was already exploring areas where countless groups would only flounder in later years.If Midge Ure seemed an odd choice to replace the discouraged Foxx, the gamble paid off, launching Ultravox into stardom, into the mid '80s, Ultravox remained the class of the British synth-rock school, with intelligent, melodic and heavily dramatic music. ~ Steve Aldrich
