One of rock's all-time supergroups, The Who built their legend for arena-rock based on "maximum R&B" in the '60s, profited from it in the '70s, and interred it during the '80s with too many farewell tours and an excess of weak albums following the 1978 death of drummer Keith Moon. Pete Townshend (guitar, vocals, songwriter), John Entwistle (bass, vocals, songwriter) and Roger Daltrey (vocals) live on, but the band died with Moon. ~ Bruce Eder
