Biography of The Temptations
The Temptations are the epitome of the classic soul vocal group; tight five-part harmonies, augmented on stage by energetic choreography. Although there have been numerous personnel changes, the group has withstood the test of time and still releases quality material. Their classic hits include "My Girl," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" and "Papa Was a Rolling Stone." They have won two Grammys and two dozen gold-record awards and are the most imitated of the Motown groups. Members included Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks (replaced by Damon Harris in 1971, Glenn Leonard in 1975, Ron Tyson in 1983), Paul Williams (deceased, replaced by Richard Street in 1971), Eldridge Bryant (deceased, replaced by David Ruffin, deceased, in 1963, Dennis Edwards in 1968, Louis Price in 1977, Ollie Woodson in 1983). ~ Rick A.
