Biography of The Sex Pistols

Geez, what's left to say? Let it suffice that vocalist Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols shook the dust off the fat and complacent late-'70s rock scene, using their buzzsaw minimalism to deflate the pomposity that had engulfed rock's then-reigning champions. Their political nihilism and f*ck-you attitudes (derived mostly from the Stooges, MC5, and the New York Dolls) set England -- and later America -- on fire; demonstrating that anyone could play in a rock band, even if you couldn't dazzle like Clapton or jet-set like the Stones. They burned out faster than the Dolls, but the best music from the Sex Pistols is as caustic and vibrant today as it was back in the days when Yes and Jethro Tull were all the rage. ~ John Floyd
