Biography of The Searchers
An extremely influential and long-lived (1959+) British invasion band, The Searchers' hits embraced folk songs, R&B, and all of the other attributes normally cited in The Beatles' success, with a distinctive and polished guitar sound unique to the era. "Needles and Pins" originated a sound picked up by The Byrds and the Beau Brummels and transformed into folk rock. With guitarist John McNally and bassist Frank Allen, they continue as a going concern in the '90s, the only major rock act of their generation that has not devolved into a faceless on-stage greatest-hits jukebox. ~ Bruce Eder
