Biography of The Mamas & the Papas
The premiere white harmony group of the late '60s, The Mamas And The Papas were formed out of several failed folk ventures under the leadership of John Phillips. Their high harmonies and mix of easy-going, trippy originals and nicely stylized covers were a veritable soundtrack for the Summer of Love and the seasons surrounding it. The quartet broke up under the weight of intertwined personal relationships and the sexual and chemical excesses of the era. ~ Bruce Eder
