Biography of The Kingston Trio
Although looked down upon by purists, this 1957-founded group started the folksong revival that ultimately led to the birth of bands like The Byrds and, more remotely, The Grateful Dead, and their guitar and banjo sound was a major influence on the playing of second-generation Fleetwood Mac sparkplug Lindsay Buckingham. The group has continued with one or more replacement members since the mid '60s, but only the Capitol sides (featuring the original lineup of Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds, the late Dave Guard, and Guard's 1961 replacement John Stewart) are of any consequence. ~ Bruce Eder
