Biography of The Four Tops
More than that of any other group signed by Berry Gordy, the Four Tops' work with producers Holland-Dozier-Holland was the embodiment of the classic "Motown Sound." The Tops also hold the record for longevity without a single personnel change. Levi Stubbs has emerged as one of the most recognizable soul shouters in pop music history. Although they've had major hits on three other labels, their mid-'60s Motown work was their best. Members include: Levi Stubbs, Abdul Fakir, Lawrence Payton, and Obie Benson. ~ Rick A. Bueche
