Biography of The Doors
The Doors were an American rock band consisting of Jim Morrison (vocals), Robbie Krieger (guitar), John Densmore (drums), and Ray Manzarek (organ and keyboard bass). Starting as a frat/R&B band on campus at UCLA, they evolved into something resembling performance art under the sway of poet and vocalist Morrison. His lyrics, free-form associations, and demonic stage energy were startling to pop audiences of the time, earning the band much chart success and a devoted following. When Morrison died in 1971, the band became a legendary icon of its time, one that has continued unabated thanks to their frequent rotation on classic-rock-format radio and to Oliver Stone's film based on their career. ~ Cub Koda
