Biography of The Dominoes
Hailing from New York, the doo wop/R&B vocal group the Dominoes originally formed in 1950. Led by a gentleman named Billy Ward, the group scored several sizeable hits during the decade, including "Do Something for Me," "I Am With You," "Sixty Minute Man," "The Bells," "I'd Be Satisfied," and "These Foolish Things Remind Me of You." Shortly thereafter, singer Clyde McPhatter left the Dominoes to sing with the Drifters (he would later score a solo hit in 1959 with "A Lover's Question"), and was replaced with Jackie Wilson. This resulted in the Dominoes signing on with Decca Records and enjoying the biggest hit of their career, "St. Therese of the Roses." ~ Greg Prato
