Biography of Stevie Wonder
Steveland Morris, blind at birth, came to Motown in 1962. He auditioned for Berry Gordy by playing every instrument in the studio. He was billed as "Little Stevie Wonder, the 12-year-old genius." His first #1 hit was "Fingertips" in 1963. As he matured, he collaborated with Motown producers Henry Cosby and Ron Miller for a string of memorable hits during the '60s. He fought Gordy for artistic independence and won. From that point he released an unparalleled string of hit albums and singles. He's been awarded more Grammy Awards (16) than any other Motown artist. His classic hits include "My Cherie Amour," "You Are the Sunshine of My Life," "Sir Duke," and "I Just Called to Say I Love You." ~ Rick A. Bueche
