Southern Culture On The Skids
Biography of Southern Culture on the Skids
Chapel Hill, NC-based Southern Culture on the Skids has been releasing original, Southern-fried rockabilly boogie since 1985, when guitarist Rick Miller formed the group and released its eponymous debut album. After a lengthy hiatus, in which a few members quit, Miller picked up the services of drummer Dave Hartman and bassist Mary Huff, and the group finally released the follow-up Too Much Pork for Just One Fork in 1992. Southern Culture gained a strong cult following of roots rock purists and indie kids, and the band has even backed up legendary wildman Hasil Adkins. Southern Culture was signed by DGC in 1995, and issued Dirt Track Date the next year. Liquored Up and Laquered Down marked another studio full-length, released in fall 2000. ~ Matt Carlson
