Biography of Smokey Robinson
Smokey & The Miracles were the first act signed to Berry Gordy's Motown Records in 1959. Under the writing and producing genius of their lead singer, The Miracles were one of the biggest record selling acts in the world during the '60s. Their hits included "Shop Around," "The Tracks of My Tears" and "I Second That Emotion." Robinson went solo in 1972, was replaced by Billy Griffin, and the Miracles continued for several years before disbanding in 1978. Members included Smokey Robinson (replaced by Billy Griffin in 1972), Pete Moore, Bobby Rogers, Caludette Robinson (retired in 1964), Ronnie White. ~ Rick A. Bueche
