Biography of Roger Miller
A native Texan, and a legendary free spirited songwriter from the salad days of Nashville's Music Row, Miller woke up one morning in 1965 with five Grammies in his possession. He owed them, for the most part, to the improbable "Dang Me," which spent six weeks at #1 country and reached #7 pop. And it wasn't half the hit "King of the Road" was. The latter song, as good as any ever written in Nashville, is still the one with which Miller's name is most closely associated, though his catalog of country standards is truly astounding in scope. In his later years, Miller enjoyed a career resurgence as songwriter for the hit Broadway musical "Big River," and as a bemused father figure to New Traditionalists rediscovering his early work. ~ Dan Cooper
