Biography of Petula Clark

Petula Clark had been a successful child actress and singer more than ten years before the British invasion. In 1964-1965 she updated her look and style, added climbing rhythm guitars to her sound and suddenly had a whole new career in Britian and America. With her cool tone and careful enunciation -- almost a White, British version of Shirley Bassey -- she was a stylistic force to be reckoned with and was second only to Dusty Springfield among her fellow British invasion songstresses in terms of having a distinctive style and sound. ~ Bruce Eder
