Biography of Paul Oakenfold
One of the original DJs to bring house music to British shores, Paul Oakenfold soaked up the sound of the New York club Paradise Garage in the early '80s and returned to England with a vision of what clubbing could be. He was born in London on August 30, 1963, and received his diploma in French Cuisine from Westminster Technical College. Trevor Fung helped him get a job DJing at a downstairs bar in Covent Garden, and he continued the gigs after his trip to America. The rise of house in England during the late '80s can be directed in part to Oakenfold, and his sets at several of the original house clubs (Project Club, Heaven). He gained popular fame during the '90s as a remixer of U2, Simply Red, the Cure, Massive Attack and the Shamen under the alias Perfecto. A Perfecto compilation is available. ~ John Bush
