Biography of Patti Page
Patti Page was one of pop music's leading singers during the early 50s. Her double-tracked vocals, highly innovative at the time, translated into gigantic commercial success. By the age of 19, Page was working as a singer at a Tulsa radio station, and she signed with Mercury in 1948. Page's use of multi-tracked vocals gave her a unique, full sound, and in 1950 her renditions of "All My Love" and "Tennessee Waltz" were both pop chart-toppers, the latter for a good three months. "Mockin' Bird Hill" (1951), "I Went to Your Wedding" (1952), and "Doggie in the Window" (1953) were only a few of her gold records for Mercury, and she persevered through the early rock era with "Allegheny Moon" in 1956 and "Old Cape Cod" the next year. Her last major pop smash in 1965, "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte," was the theme song to a popular movie. ~ Bill Dahl
