Biography of Michael Hedges

A virtuoso acoustic guitarist, Hedges records for the Windham Hill label. On his first two albums, Breakfast in the Field and Aerial Boundaries, his playing style combined two-handed tapping ostinatos with percussive slides and slaps to produce rhythmic intensity and hypnotic melodies. This is compositional guitar, with Hedges coaxing a full ensemble of sounds from his guitar. His acoustic sound is treated with reverb and delays, producing a spacious atmosphere that is warm and inviting. His third album, Watching My Life Go By, is a change of pace, on which Hedges adds his voice to the music and interprets Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower." Following a live album (Live on the Double Planet), he returned with Taproot, on which he again did vocals. ~ Scott Bultman
