Biography of Live
With their muscular R.E.M. and U2 hybrid, Live straddles the line between alternative rock credibility and mainstream radio accessibility. When their first album was released, it was a moderate commercial success, made all the more impressive considering the reluctance of radio to alternative-oriented music. Throwing Copper, their second album, shot to the top of college charts when it was released in the spring of 1994, as well as receiving a substantial amount of mainstream sales and play on pop radio. In early 1995, the number one album rock and modern rock single "Lightning Crashes" sent the album into the pop Top Ten and by the summer, Throwing Copper had sold over four million copies. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
