Biography of Larry Coryell

A former journalism student at the University of Washington, Coryell has a long background in rock and jazz. He was on the ground floor of the jazz-rock tradition with the Gary Burton Quartet and band Free Spirits, and his solos with Chico Hamilton in 1965 suggested the coming of a new era. Later groups Foreplay and Eleventh House squeezed all the creative juice out of that form. Coryell is superb on both acoustic and electric guitar and has made striking acoustic and classical statements. At his best, he's unforgettable. ~ Ron Wynn
