Biography of Keith Urban
Although he was born and raised in Australia, contemporary country singer/songwriter Keith Urban always harbored an affection for the music of Nashville, and two years after picking up the guitar at age six he was entering local talent shows, singing renditions of hits by Charley Pride, Don Williams, Jim Reeves and others. By 14, he was regularly touring clubs, and while in his early twenties made a number of trips to Nashville to hone his songwriting skills. After charting four number one hits down under, Urban relocated to Nashville full-time, joining the short-lived band the Ranch before making his American solo debut in 1999 with a self-titled effort for Capitol. ~ Jason Ankeny
