Biography of Judy Garland
Immortalized while a teenager in the 1939 film musical The Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland also recorded often. Of course, her classic rendition of "Over the Rainbow" from Oz was a smash that same year on Decca, and she scored numerous hits during the 40s. By 1954, Garland was recording for Columbia, and her rendition of "The Man That Got Away," from her hit movie A Star Is Born, helped to define The Garland mystique. She hosted her own TV variety show in the early '60s and continued to belt out her classic material until her premature death. Daughters Liza Minnelli and Lorna Luft are very talented chips off Garland's brilliant block. ~ Bill Dahl
