Biography of John Hartford
"Gentle on My Mind," counterculture's think-I'll-be-movin'-along song, became Hartford's first hit when Glen Campbell covered it in 1967, leading to three Grammys and fame for its multi-talented composer. Soon Hartford appeared on TV's "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" and then became a regular on the "Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour." After touring with his own band for a while, Hartford created a spell-binding solo act, which he continues to the present. His long-time love of riverboats is seen in many of his songs and was the basis of a TV special in the 1980s. With his fiddle and banjo, Hartford is first and foremost an exceptional entertainer and is famous for his riveting and memorable solo performances. ~ David Vinopal
