Biography of Gregg Allman
A consummate keyboardist, composer and singer, Gregg Allman is best known as the leader of the Allman Brothers Band. But over the years, Allman has recorded several fine albums of blues and blues-rock. For anyone who's not a blues purist, but considers themselves more a fan of blues-rock, roots-rock and blues, all of Allman's albums are great amalgamations of blues, classic R&B and early rock & roll.Allman's solo albums, dating back to the early 1970s, include Laid Back (1972), The Gregg Allman Tour '74 (1974), Playin' Up a Storm (1977), and Two the Hard Way (1977), all for Capricorn Records, as well as I'm No Angel (Epic Records, 1987), which spawned the number one AOR title hit, and Just Before the Bullets Fly (1988, Epic Records). A retrospective, One More Try, was released by Polydor in 1997, the same year Allman released his first solo recording in more than a decade, Searching for Simplicity for Sony. ~ Richard Skelly
