Biography of Gladys Knight
Gladys Knight's career began when she won first prize at Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour as a child. At the age of seventeen she had her first hit record, along with her brother and two cousins, who were known as The Pips. Their career really took off when they signed with Motown in 1966. Moving over to Buddah Records in 1973, they scored another string of hits. Gladys Knight now performs as a soloist and records for MCA. The Pips are retired; members include: Merald Knight, Edward Patten, and William Guest. Gladys Knight was among a series of R&B artists handpicked for a special project in 1994. Rhythm, Country and Blues teamed country and R&B acts for a series of duets, and Knight sang "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" with Vince Gill. The LP made history by debuting in the Top Ten in three categories: pop, country, and R&B. ~ Rick A. Bueche
