Biography of Gabor Szabo

Guitar, composer. Though he didn't come to America until he was nearly 20, Hungarian guitarist Gabor Szabo has still been a successful contributor to several jazz groups and sessions. He made his first impact as a member of Chico Hamilton's groups and later worked with Gary McFarland and Charles Lloyd. He co-led a group with Cal Tjader and McFarland in 1968-1969, then did some recording in which Lena Horne was the featured vocalist. Szabo led other West Coast bands in the 70s, among them a fusion/jazz-rock unit Perfect Circle in 1975, and later recorded with Chick Corea. ~ Ron Wynn
