Biography of Fats Domino
New Orleans has produced many musical legends over the years but none have created a sound that was more recognizable, more influential, or more profitable than Fats Domino. Beginning with "The Fat Man" in 1949, Domino had an enviable run of chart success, selling more than 65 million records and chalking up 23 gold records. Although he's become a rock & roll deity -- he was one of the first Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees -- Domino made his name playing the same New Orleans R&B he'd always played. His best recordings were made for the Imperial label between 1949 and 1963. Of his scores of hits, "Ain't That a Shame," "Blueberry Hill," "I'm Walking," "Whole Lot of Lovin'," and "I'm Ready" were among the biggest. EMI's They Call Me the Fat Man, a 100-track boxed set, concisely chronicles Domino's sound and story. ~ Jeff Hannusch
