Biography of Fantastic Plastic Machine

The brainchild of Japanese DJ and producer Tomoyuki Tanaka, Fantastic Plastic Machine emerged from the Tokyo Shibuya scene as one of a group of artists -- Pizzicato Five, Cornelius and DJ Towa Tei among them -- whose music mixed and matched traditional and cutting-edge pop sounds and styles. After building a reputation remixing material for acts including Björk, Dimitri from Paris, Combustible Edison and Dog Eat Dog, Tanaka began recording for producer Howie B.'s Pussyfoot label, and as Fantastic Plastic Machine issued his self-titled debut LP in 1998. ~ Jason Ankeny
