Biography of Etta James
One of the top female blues and R&B singers ever since she hit the charts as a teenager with "The Wallflower" (better known as "Dance with Me Henry") and "Good Rockin' Daddy," Etta James is a soul survivor who has lived through some rough times and emerged still bold and tough. Her music has always leaned more towards the R&B/soul side (also pop and rock at times) and most of her hits have come as a soul or ballad singer, but as a blues singer Etta remains one of the gutsiest. She added her name to a list of distinguished artists in 1994, cutting a Billie Holiday-tribute release. ~ Jim O'Neal
