Biography of Ernie K-Doe
New Orleans vocalist Ernest Kador, Jr., had one unforgettable R&B hit in 1961, aided by Benny Spellman's authoritative bass vocal. "Mother-In-Law" topped the charts for five weeks, and was recorded for Minit. K-Doe originally sang with The Blue Diamonds, who recorded for Savoy in 1954. Their ranks included Huey "Piano" Smith, Billy Tate, Frank Fields and Earl Palmer. "Te-Ta-Te-Ta-Ta" did reasonably well as a follow-up single, peaking at number 21. It would be six years before K-Doe would get another chart hit; the singles "Later for Tomorrow" and a remake of "Until the Real Thing Comes Along" each gained only marginal success for Duke in 1967, his last releases to make any national noise. ~ Ron Wynn
