Biography of Electric Flag
The Electric Flag were a horn-dominated rock band led by guitarist Michael Bloomfield (1944-1981) and featuring drummer and vocalist Buddy Miles, bassist Harvey Brooks (born Goldstein), and vocalist Nick Gravenites. Whereas later, more successful horn-based groups like Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears worked from jazz and pop influences, The Electric Flag used the Stax/Volt sound, James Brown, and B.B. King's large groups as role models. Bloomfield left after their first album, with Miles taking over the leadership role for the second album. They re-formed with Bloomfield in 1974 for one quick album released to scant acclaim, but its influence as a trendsetter far exceeds its record sales. ~ Cub Koda
