Biography of El Tri
Mexican rock band El Tri was formed in the late '60s, performing under the name of Three Souls in My Mind. The band kept singing in English, until they released their third album. Led by Alejandro Lora, the group has been considered a Latin rock pioneer. In 1971, the band participated in the Avándano Festival, known as the Mexican Woodstock, playing in front of its first major audience ever. After 15 years, the act finally changed its name to El Tri, achieving gold status in Mexico after releasing 1985's Simplemente El Tri, with the hit singles "Triste Canción De Amor" and "Vicioso Del Rocanrol." The following year, the group was invited to participate in a Hispanic rock festival at Madrid's Palacio de los Deportes, later touring the U.S. El Tri's discography includes three live albums recorded at Santa Martha, Hollywood's Palladium, and Mexico City. El Tri was awarded by the Mexican Cinematographic Academy for its contribution to Un Año Perdido's movie soundtrack, having its 1998's Cuando Tú No Estas nominated to the Grammys for Best Latin Rock Record. ~ Drago Bonacich
