Biography of Eagles
Country-rock band formed in California in the early '70s, featuring Don Henley (b 1947), Glenn Frey (b 1948), Bernie Leadon (b 1947), and Randy Meisner (b 1946). The group evolved from Linda Ronstadt's backing group to own entity with debut album in 1972. California slick and detached compared to real country or harder rock & roll, The Eagles were nevertheless commercially successful beyond belief, scoring 19 Top Forty hits betweeen 1972 and 1980. Guitarist Joe Walsh replaced Leadon in the mid '70s, and the hits continued unabated until internal friction caused group split in 1981. Henley, Frey and Walsh continue solo careers. ~ Cub Koda
