Biography of Dusty Springfield

The greatest female soul singer to come out of England's beat boom, Dusty Springfield (born Mary O'Brien) started with the folk trio, The Springfields, before going solo. With a big, powerful voice and a passionate full-bodied delivery, she was an overwhelming musical presence during the mid 60s and even held her own on stage with the best of Motown's acts. Her later material veered toward pop, but in 1969 she cut the classic White soul album Dusty in Memphis. ~ Bruce Eder
