Biography of Dobie Gray

Journeyman soul singer, composer, and actor Dobie Gray has had a checkered career, scoring hit records in two different decades, acting on Broadway, and appearing in the Los Angeles production of Hair.After moving to Nashville in 1978, Dobie Gray resurfaced in the late '80s as a country songwriter and performer. Previously he remade "The 'In' Crowd" for an LP on Infinity, Dobie Gray, that was a hit in England. David Ruffin also recorded his song "City Stars." The LP Back Where I Belong in the early '80s was a competent bit of country-soul, but failed to secure Gray a niche in Nashville's tight-knit fraternity.
