Biography of David Lee Roth

David Lee Roth was the original vocalist for Van Halen. Known as "Diamond Dave" due to his sometimes overdone attitude on stage and off, he left Van Halen for a solo career, meeting with immediate success in 1985 with his cover of The Beach Boys hit "California Girls." Throughout the years his solo band has featured a great set of musicians, including one-time Frank Zappa and Alcatrazz guitarist Steve Vai and former Talas bassist Billy Sheehan, who now is comfortable in his own band Mr. Big. Roth's popularity has somewhat dwindled in recent years, but his work with Van Halen will always remain a heavy influence for metal bands around the world. ~ John Book
