Biography of Darlene Love
Singer/actress Darlene Love has had a varied career without achieving the stardom many observers felt she deserved. Love was one of the founders of the girl group The Blossoms in the 1950s, a group that found more work doing backups on recordings and television shows than it did in the foreground. Love worked extensively on the productions of Phil Spector in the early '60s, including singing lead vocals on songs credited to The Crystals and Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans. She also made several singles under her own name with Spector, including the Top 40 hit "Wait Til My Bobby Gets Home." But she continued to work largely as a backup singer. In the 1980s, the Broadway musical Leader of the Pack was built around her, and she acted in the Lethal Weapon series of action movies. Her debut solo album, Paint Another Picture, finally was released in 1990. ~ William Ruhlmann
