Biography of Cyndi Lauper
As a guitarist, Lauper gigged with several bands in the '70s before co-founding Blue Angel in 1977, which released a highly acclaimed rock & roll album on Polydor three years later. She went solo in 1983 and became a musical and MTV sensation with her her pop-feminist song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and her tender ballad "Time after Time." She won the 1984 Grammy for Best New Artist.Although she has had several hits since her debut, most notably the hit ballad "True Colors," Lauper was never able to recapture the excitement that surrounded her debut, She's So Unusual. She was still recording in the '90s, scoring a hit every now and then. ~ Bil Carpenter & Donna DiChario
