Biography of Curtis Fuller

Fuller ranks near the top among bop trombonists. One of the class of the '50s in Detroit jazz circles, he studied music in high school and played with Cannonball Adderley in The US Army Band. Fuller moved to New York in 1957. He is almost as fast and technically flawless as his main influence, J.J. Johnson, though not so fond of vocal effects and less flamboyant. A master at slow, lyrical pieces and not quite so creative or imaginative on faster tunes; he's never behind or ahead of the beat. ~ Ron Wynn
