Biography of Charly García
Pioneering Argentinian rocker Charly García was born October 23, 1951, making his recorded debut on Raúl Porchetto's 1972 effort Cristo Rock. With Nito Mestre, he then formed the folk duo Sui Generis, issuing Vida later that same year; the pair split in 1975, with García subsequently joining La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros. A stint fronting Serú Girán followed before he mounted a solo career in 1982 with the album Yendo de la Cama al Living, concurrently recording the soundtrack to the Raúl de la Torre film Pubis Angelical. Clics Modernos followed in 1983, with 1987's Parte de la Religión widely considered García's creative peak; he remained prolific throughout the 1990s as well, issuing well-received albums including 1991's Radio Pinti (a collaboration with Enrique Pinti and Pedro Aznar), 1994's La Hija de la Lágrima, 1997's Alta Fidelidad and 2000's Unico. ~ Jason Ankeny
