Biography of Bruce Hornsby

Virginia-born pianist Bruce Hornsby distinguished himself in the late '80s and early '90s as a thoughtful songwriter, an excellent performer, and a ubiquitous sideman for numerous fellow performers -- he even joined the Grateful Dead on a part-time basis after the death of their keyboard player Brent Mydland in 1990.His debut album with The Range, The Way It Is (1986), produced three Top 20 hits, reached number three, and landed the group the Grammy for Best New Artist that year. ~ William Ruhlmann
