Biography of Blondie
Blondie started out in the mid-'70s punk/new-wave scene in New York City, along with bands such as The Ramones and Talking Heads. They would eventually be the most commercially successful new-wave band. Their breakthrough came with their third album, the Mike Chapman-produced Parallel Lines. It contained the rock-disco smash "Heart of Glass." This, along with Debbie Harry's movie-star good looks, propelled the band to stardom. They would continue to ride high on the charts for the next few years with an eclectic mix of hits, including the reggae-flavored "The Tide Is High" and the rap "Rapture." The group disbanded in 1983 with various members pursuing solo careers. ~ Kenneth M. Cassidy
