Biography of Björk
When The Sugarcubes dissolved after a string of unsuccessful albums in the early '90s, lead singer Bjork Gudmundsottir rejected the band's arty guitar rock pretentions, pursuing a dance-oriented solo career. With producer Nellee Hooper, Bjork released the innovative Debut in 1993. Featuring the singles "Human Behaviour," "Venus As A Boy," and "Big Time Sensuality," the record became an international hit as well as establishing her as a major creative force in dance music. As she was recording the followup to Debut, Bjork co-wrote the title track to Madonna's 1994 album, Bedtime Stories. Bjork released her second album, Post, in the summer of 1995; it was a hit upon its release, debuting in the American Top 40 and the British Top 10, as well reaching the Top 10 in several European countries. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
