nuTsie FAQ

I :: NUTSIE WEB

1. What is nuTsie?

Welcome to nuTsie!

nuTsie takes an entirely new approach on music and "personalized" internet radio. With a little know-how, you can start to really see all that nuTsie has to offer.

First of all, start thinking in terms of playlists; collections of songs instead of single tracks. There are thousands of featured playlists built by the nuTsie team to get you started quickly. Simply search for a playlist or choose one from the links on the front page and let the music begin.

nuTsie also features a playlist builder that allows the creation of custom lists. Add songs from your iTunes playlists, featured lists, your friends' lists, or simply search the entire system for your favorite artist. You can read more about playlist creation in FAQ #6.

2. How does nuTsie play my iTunes?

nuTsie takes all the song titles and artist info from your iTunes library and matches that to music on nuTsie servers. nuTsie does not move or copy any of your music files. We then match up your list of music with our extensive library. This way, you can listen to nuTsie anywhere at any time! There is no requirement to keep your home computer on since we stream all the music from our server center.

3. Why can't I click on a single song and have it play?

When using nuTsie, think in terms of playlists! nuTsie is all about creating and sharing playlists. Use the nuTsie playlist creator to show off your musical "mixtape" intelligence. Besides, the law won't let us. If you're really interested in single song play, the iTunes Store is there for you...along with their fees. For further info, please refer to FAQ answer #12.

4. How do I sync iTunes with nuTsie?

nuTsie can import your entire iTunes library's playlist and automatically organize your lists for you. This can be done automatically or manually, it's up to you.

The "automatic" method: Simply download our 'nuTsie Uploader' for Mac or PC.
The "manual" method: Log into your account on nuTsie.com and click "Add Playlist" from the top bar.

5. What are 'nuTsie picks'?

You can control the amount of suggested music by adjusting the Serendipity Slider. The slider can be found directly above the player box on the website. On nuTsie Mobile, the Slider can be found in the main menu, towards the bottom. Recommended music is generated intelligently by matching what you already have in your nuTsie library with similar genres and artists. We call these suggested songs "nuTsie picks". It's a great way to find new music you'll actually like!

6. How do I create playlists on-the-fly?

Collecting your favorite music and organizing them into playlists is what nuTsie is all about. Creating playlists is free, simple, and there's no limit to how many songs or lists you can add to your account.

There are 2 ways to generate a new playlist on the nuTsie website:
  1. To grab a song that is currently playing, click the 'Grab' button in the player. A box will pop up asking you where you would like to place that song. To drop it in an existing playlist, simply click on the name of that list. You're done! You can now find that song in your "My nuTsie" page under the appropriate playlist.
  2. To search and add either a single song or multiple songs, utilize the search tool. When you find the results you're looking for, click on the check boxes next to the songs you want. When you've checked all the appropriate songs, click the "Grab selected songs". A box will pop up, asking you were you'd like to save these songs. Click on a list that already exists in your account to add them. If you want to add them to a new list, type a title for the playlist in the form and hit the 'enter' key. The list has been saved. Now finish by clicking the new list to drop the songs in there.

7. Why is my playlist grayed out?

If you find that a playlist is grayed out, it means there was a problem matching your music with ours. If artist, title, and album tags are missing from your mp3s, nuTsie has no way of sorting these songs. Info tags can be added in iTunes by right clicking and selecting 'get info'. Do this BEFORE uploading your list to nuTsie.

In some cases, we may not have the song on our server. This is rare, but will happen if you attempt to match something like a song you recorded last week of your high school's local punk band. If we don't have it, we can't stream it. If there's an album we're missing that we should probably get, please let us know and we'll order it on request.

8. What does the 'Grab' button do and what is the 'Grab Bag'?

The "Grab Bag" is the simplest, quickest way to save a song you like for later. If you come across a song you like, click the "+Grab" button and choose "Grab Bag". You can then find your grabs on "My nuTsie" page on the left. Please see question #6.

9. What happens when I click 'Hate It'?

If you really don't like a song, clicking on "Hate It" tells nuTsie that you don't want to hear it again. If you mistakenly clicked "Hate It" on a song you like, go to "My nuTsie" on the web and click on the bottom left where it says "Hated Songs". On the right, your list of "Hated Songs" will show. Click on the red 'x' to put them back in rotation.

10. How do I update the iTunes playlist I uploaded to nuTsie?

Export your iTunes XML list and upload it the same way you did earlier. This will overwrite your old nuTsie library. Don't worry, the playlists you created online won't be erased!

11. What is nuTsie mobile?

Take nuTsie on a roadtrip or a jog around the neighborhood. nuTsie's mobile application is supported on Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Danger, and other popular platforms. Check here to see if your device is supported.

12. How does nuTsie provide unlimited free, legal music?

nuTsie operates under the same licenses that radio stations and webcasters do. As a nuTsie user, you can listen to unlimited streaming music that is tailored to your liking as long as certain rules are followed. Some of these rules include: shuffle mode and no 'back' button. You can probably agree that it's a small price to pay for what nuTsie.com offers for free.
